I can’t begin to tell you how exciting things have gotten for me in the career arena. After a year of relocation and shop changes and general upheaval I’ve finally, blessedly, found my permanent tattooing home. I seriously couldn’t be more thrilled.
Last Winter I had the good fortune to meet Mulysa Mayhem, an amazing, awesome, inspirational artist and person. We hit it off right away, and she blew me away when she said she likes my art. At the time of our meeting, she was working out of a small shop in a fairly dismal little town, but had plans to open her own shop with her husband Scott within the year. After her beginning about 20 years ago in the Massachusetts underground then working her tail off for other people in a few different shops in a few different states, she’s earned it, to say the very least.

Her dream, in addition to being her own boss, was to create a space that inspires creativity, learning, mutual respect and support, family. A space that isn’t only warm and welcoming to our clients, but to each person working there, where we can all grow and work to achieve our highest potential, our home away from home.
On December 1st of this year that dream became a reality, and that dream’s name is Good Mojo Tattoos.

Immediately you can see that this is not your ‘typical’ tattoo shop. There’s no flash, no attitudes. In fact, until you notice the framed prints of tattooed women in the living room, you may think you’re in the wrong place. Rich colors and gilt frames bring to mind the Victorian era, but it’s anything but stuffy and formal. It’s beautiful, welcoming, comforting and comfortable. You’re really just going to have to see it.

I don’t really know how Mulysa did it, but she’s gathered an amazing group of people. Aside from myself she hired one more full-time artist, Jon Doe. Jon’s worked at Lightwave and Purple Scorpion and did a stint with Julie Moon, all well-known shops in MA. Jon has quickly become the little brother I never knew I wanted and don’t quite know how to get rid of and I’m not convinced I would if I could. Talented, funny, and easy to pick on. Don’t worry, he gives it right back in spades.

Apprentice Rabies Ray is a madly talented artist and all-around great guy. He loves graphic novel-style characters but doesn’t restrict himself to that. No one tells a story as well or as comically as he does, and it’s seriously worth the trip to the shop just to experience that.

Apprentice Lisa Ainsworth is also a very talented artist, her soft colors and fluid lines give her a distinct style that’s bold, but not in-your-face.
Intern James has so much enthusiasm that you can feel it in the air around him. He’s quiet and soft-spoken, but don’t make the mistake of thinking that means he’s lazy. He works his tail off in the shop, learning about the whole ball of wax from the bottom up. You can often find him drawing pretty much anything.
Casie (like Cassie, not Casey) is our part-time front desk gal/errand runner/idea haver/random dancer. She’s a bundle of energy, funny as hell, and endlessly entertaining.

All together we have a wonderful synergy, getting along like we’ve known each other for ages, and it sort of blows my mind that we’ve only known each other for two weeks. I’m more grateful than I can express for the opportunity to work with each of these incredible people, to be part of their family and to welcome them into mine. I’m excited to see what the future holds for each of us, and I’m grateful and humbled to be a part of it.
